In a recent interview with Empire, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed his advice to Hugh Jackman regarding a potential return as Wolverine in the third Deadpool movie. Reflecting on Jackman’s poignant farewell in 2017’s Logan, Feige cautioned against undoing such a memorable conclusion. “I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’,” Feige recalled.
Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine in Logan received widespread acclaim, providing a fitting conclusion to the character’s arc. Despite initial hesitation, Jackman ultimately agreed to reprise his role after a period of contemplation. “I drove for another hour. Couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I got out of the car, called Ryan (Reynolds), and said, ‘Ryan, if you’ll have me, I’m in’,” Jackman shared.
The upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine project aims to maintain the integrity of Logan’s farewell while reintroducing Jackman’s character in a new context. Though Jackman returns, it’s clear that this iteration of Wolverine will diverge from previous portrayals seen in the X-Men franchise.
