With production set to commence in October, Zo In-sung, Park Jeong-min, Park Hae-joon, and Nana have been confirmed as the leading cast for director Ryoo Seung-wan’s upcoming espionage action film, HUMINT. Distributed by Contents Panda, HUMINT delves into the world of intelligence, depicting the intense confrontation between North and South Korean agents as they uncover a series of crimes along the Vladivostok border. The title HUMINT is derived from “Human Intelligence,” referring to the gathering of intelligence through interpersonal contact.
Ryoo Seung-wan, acclaimed for his dynamic storytelling, recently had his film I, The Executioner as the sole Korean entry in this year’s Cannes Film Festival’s official selection. The crime action film, which serves as a sequel to Veteran (2015), is slated for release later this year.
Veteran actor Zo In-sung, who previously teamed up with Ryoo in Escape from Mogadishu (2021) and Smugglers (2023), is set to portray Manager Zo, a pivotal figure in South Korea’s National Intelligence Service. Park Jeong-min, also a collaborator on Smugglers, will take on the role of Park Geon, a captain in North Korea’s State Security Department.
Park Hae-joon, known for his performance in 12.12: The Day—2023’s box office success—joins the cast as Hwang Chi-sung, the Consulate-General of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in Vladivostok. Adding to the ensemble, singer-actress Nana will portray Chae Seon-hwa, a waitress in a North Korean restaurant.
The anticipation for HUMINT is building as Ryoo Seung-wan’s latest project promises a thrilling narrative set against the backdrop of international espionage and geopolitical tension.
