Anurag Kashyap is riding high on the success of his recent film ‘Maharaja,’ starring Vijay Sethupathi. Despite his busy schedule, Kashyap maintains a close bond with his daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, often sharing cherished memories of their time together.
In a candid chat with Pinkvilla, Kashyap revealed a touching moment from their past. He recounted having to break the door of Aaliyah’s room in their old house. This room held special memories for him, especially their playful filmmaking sessions when Aaliyah was a child. “We used to make little films on the camera or iPad,” Kashyap reminisced, highlighting how Aaliyah would direct while he acted. His decision to dismantle the room was driven by nostalgia. He explained, “I didn’t want to dwell on things we no longer have.”
Kashyap’s sentimental reflection was recently shared on Aaliyah’s podcast, ‘Young, Dumb, and Anxious.’ During the episode, Aaliyah confronted her father for canceling a planned recording. Kashyap explained his hectic schedule was due to working hard to fund her wedding. He humorously noted that the wedding budget was as substantial as one of his film productions.
The filmmaker shares Aaliyah with his ex-wife, Aarti Bajaj. Following their separation, Kashyap married actress Kalki Koechlin. Aaliyah recently got engaged to Shane Gregoire on May 20, 2023, in Bali, followed by a lavish engagement ceremony in Mumbai. The family is now in the midst of planning their upcoming wedding celebrations.
In his professional sphere, Kashyap revealed that his decision to act in ‘Maharaja’ was influenced by his admiration for Vijay Sethupathi. He described Sethupathi as the primary reason he agreed to take on the role.
As Kashyap balances the demands of his career and personal life, his deep connection with Aaliyah remains a constant source of joy and reflection.
