Lindsay Lohan experienced a profound sense of déjà vu while filming the upcoming sequel to “Freaky Friday.” Returning to Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California, to shoot “Freaky Friday 2” brought back waves of nostalgia for the actress, who first starred in the 2003 body-swap comedy.
During a recent interview on ABC’s Nightline, Lohan shared her excitement about reuniting with co-star Jamie Lee Curtis and filming on the iconic Disney lot. “Jamie and I have stayed in touch over the years,” Lohan noted. “It’s like one of those friendships where, even if you don’t see each other for a long time, when you finally do, it’s as if no time has passed.”
The return to Disney’s lot was especially poignant for Lohan, who reminisced about her past roles with the studio. “Walking onto that lot wasn’t just about ‘Freaky Friday’ for me,” she explained. “It was also ‘The Parent Trap,’ ‘Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,’ and ‘Herbie: Fully Loaded.’ Being back there, I felt like a little kid again.”
Lohan expressed her gratitude and emotions for the experience, saying, “I’m so grateful for every moment of it. Every second… I’m going to, like, get emotional. It’s a great experience.”
In the 2003 remake of the 1976 Disney classic, based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 book, Lohan starred as Anna Coleman opposite Curtis, who played her mother Tess. The film’s premise of a mother and daughter swapping bodies after an enchanted fortune cookie forces them to walk in each other’s shoes has remained a beloved favorite.
Speculation about a sequel has circulated for years, and fans’ wishes have finally come true. Filming for “Freaky Friday 2” began this month, with Lohan and Curtis sharing behind-the-scenes moments on social media. Lohan captioned a clip with, “We’re back!” while Disney confirmed the production with an announcement: “The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The sequel to ‘Freaky Friday’ is now in production!”
The new film, written by Jordan Weiss and directed by Nisha Ganatra, will follow an adult Anna, now with a daughter and a stepdaughter on the way. This new family dynamic sets the stage for another twist on the body-swap theme.
Joining the cast are Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Manny Jacinto. Returning actors include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.
Fans eagerly anticipate seeing Lohan and Curtis back in action as the beloved Colemans, promising a mix of nostalgia and fresh storytelling in “Freaky Friday 2.”
