Lionsgate has officially begun production on its adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 novel The Long Walk. The film stars Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson and has recently expanded its cast with seven new additions: Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, and Roman Griffin Davis. Specific details about their roles have not been disclosed.
Garrett Wareing, known for his roles in Ransom Canyon and Manifest, joins the cast alongside Tut Nyuot, recognized for his work in The Witcher: Blood Origin. Charlie Plummer, who currently stars in National Anthem, and Ben Wang, from American Born Chinese, are also part of the new ensemble. Jordan Gonzalez, known for Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, Joshua Odjick, seen in Welcome to Derry, and Roman Griffin Davis, who starred in Jojo Rabbit, complete the new cast additions.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, known for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the film is based on King’s novel originally published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. The Long Walk is set in a dystopian America where 50 teenage boys must walk continuously at a pace faster than three miles per hour, or face elimination.
The screenplay is by JT Mollner, with Lawrence producing through his company about
, alongside Roy Lee, Cameron MacConomy, and Steven Schneider. Meredith Wieck and Erin Jones-Wesley from Lionsgate are overseeing the project, with Phil Strina handling negotiations. Production is underway in rural Manitoba and will continue through the summer.
Garrett Wareing’s past work includes God Is a Bullet and Boychoir. Tut Nyuot has appeared in Dark Money and Small Axe. Charlie Plummer is set to appear in The Return and has previously starred in Lean on Pete and All the Money in the World. Ben Wang has been seen in The Karate Kid reimagining and Mean Girls musical. Jordan Gonzalez is known for Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, while Joshua Odjick will next appear in HBO’s Welcome to Derry. Roman Griffin Davis gained prominence for his lead role in Jojo Rabbit and will star in upcoming projects including Greenland: Migration and A Rare Grand Alignment.
