The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has stirred controversy by issuing a notice on July 29, urging Tamil film associations to halt film shootings starting November 1. This directive aims to provide a clearer understanding of film budgets and essential expenses. Alongside this, the TFPC announced a ban on actor Dhanush, citing his failure to commence filming despite having received advances from several producers.
In response, the Nadigar Sangam has voiced strong opposition to the TFPC’s decision. Key members of Nadigar Sangam, including Karthi, Karunas, and Poochi Murugan, held a press conference to express their concerns. They criticized the TFPC for not consulting Nadigar Sangam or its members prior to making this decision.
Traditionally, the Tamil Film Producers Council and Nadigar Sangam collaborate to address issues involving actors or producers. However, this is the first time the TFPC has lodged a complaint against Dhanush. Karthi condemned the sudden move to ban the actor as unacceptable. Nadigar Sangam members argued that the TFPC’s decision could negatively impact cinema stars across various sectors and called for a joint meeting of all Tamil film associations to discuss the issue further.
Additionally, the TFPC has mandated that no new Tamil movies be initiated after August 15 and that ongoing film shootings be concluded by November 1. The council also imposed new release guidelines, stipulating that films featuring leading actors should appear on OTT platforms only eight weeks after their theatrical release, an increase from the current four-week period.
