Wesley Snipes recently revealed how the idea of reprising his role as Blade in the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie came about. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Snipes shared that the conversation began with a text from Ryan Reynolds. Initially, Snipes was skeptical, having joked to Reynolds, “I hate this guy,” and expressing doubt about the feasibility of the idea.
Despite their playful banter, Reynolds proposed the concept, leaving Snipes hesitant about its execution. Snipes recalled telling Reynolds, “It’s very unlikely,” but added, “If you can make it happen, sure. I’ll come and do it.”
Snipes admitted he doubted the project’s likelihood, considering Marvel’s existing plans for a Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali. “I didn’t think it was possible,” he said. “I didn’t think that Marvel was into it. Disney was into it. And also because they had Mahershala cast for the next upcoming version of it. So, it didn’t make sense to me.”
Wesley Snipes originally portrayed the vampire hunter Blade in the 1998 film directed by Stephen Norrington. He reprised the role in 2002’s “Blade II” and 2004’s “Blade: Trinity.”
Marvel announced in 2019 that they were developing a Blade reboot with Mahershala Ali in the lead role. The project has faced several delays, including the departure of director Bassam Tariq and the impact of the writers’ strike. Currently, the Blade reboot is set to be directed by Yann Demange and is scheduled for release on November 7, 2025.
