Jaya Bachchan, who took her husband Amitabh Bachchan’s surname after their marriage, recently had a humorous moment in a parliamentary session. On July 29, Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh referred to her by her maiden name, Jaya Bhaduri, leading to a brief and amusing reaction from the veteran actress.
During a recent session, Jaya Bachchan introduced herself as Jaya Amitabh Bachchan. Her response came after Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar praised both her and Amitabh Bachchan, which prompted Jaya to smile and show appreciation. In a light-hearted moment, Jaya playfully referred to herself as “Mai Jaya Amitabh Bachchan,” contributing to a cheerful atmosphere.
The matter took a turn when Speaker Harivansh addressed her as “Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan ji” while reading from a cue card. Jaya promptly suggested that “Jaya Bachchan” would have sufficed, explaining her preference for her simpler name. The Speaker clarified that he had used her officially registered name.
In a related comment, Jaya Bachchan voiced her concerns about women being identified by their husbands’ names, arguing that this practice diminishes their personal identities and achievements. Speaking in Hindi, she expressed frustration over this trend.
Outside Parliament, Jaya was asked by ANI about her views on the Budget 2024. She dismissed the budget as theatrical and questioned the feasibility of the promises made.
Married to Amitabh Bachchan since 1973, Jaya Bachchan has two children, Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan Nanda. On the professional front, she was recently seen in Karan Johar’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,’ where her performance earned special acclaim alongside a stellar cast that included Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi.
