‘Raayan,’ featuring Dhanush in the lead role, hit theatres on July 26 and marked the actor’s 50th film, released in record numbers. Despite being certified ‘A’ by the CBFC for its raw action sequences, the film enjoyed strong occupancy in its initial days. However, it experienced a dip in attendance during the latter half of the first week.
On its second Saturday, August 3, ‘Raayan’ saw a resurgence, reportedly earning Rs 6 crore, according to Cinetrak. This brings the film’s overall collection to Rs 116 crore. ‘Raayan’ is poised to surpass Dhanush’s previous film ‘Vaathi,’ which had a lifetime collection of Rs 118 crore, potentially becoming the highest-grossing film of the actor’s career.
Over the course of nine days, ‘Raayan’ has grossed over Rs 60 crore domestically, with around Rs 16 crore coming from the Telugu states. The overseas collection has exceeded Rs 33 crore. Advance sales for day 10 (August 4) look promising, with the film reportedly earning around Rs 2 crore from advance bookings.
‘Raayan’ is Dhanush’s second directorial venture, showcasing his versatility as both an actor and a director. The film features an ensemble cast including SJ Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, and Saravanan. The music for the action drama is composed by AR Rahman.
