Samarjit Lankesh, son of director Indrajit Lankesh and grandson of renowned writer-filmmaker P. Lankesh, is set to make his debut in Kannada cinema with the film Gowri, which will also mark the Kannada debut of actress Saanya Iyer. The film is slated for release on August 15.
In a recent interview with Bangalore Times, Samarjit shared insights into his journey into cinema. He revealed that his fascination with film began at an early age, sparked by the magic of the silver screen and inspired by the works of Puneeth Rajkumar and Sudeep. This early passion led him to pursue acting seriously. To build his skills, Samarjit attended the New York Film Academy, where he gained valuable experience in filmmaking, acting, and creating short films with friends. Additionally, he engaged in theatre, assisted director Yogaraj Bhat, learned stunts from Chethan Dsouza, and studied dance with Murali Master for two years, all of which contributed to his preparation for Gowri.
Samarjit discussed the heightened sense of responsibility he felt transitioning from a child artist to a lead actor. This new role brought increased diligence and a deeper commitment to his craft, making Gowri an ideal project for him to showcase his acting range. The film, which features multiple layers to his character, required him to master the Mandya Kannada dialect and involved intricate dance and stunt sequences.
Regarding his collaboration with his father, director Indrajit Lankesh, Samarjit emphasized the professionalism that defined their working relationship. Despite their close personal bond, they maintained a professional dynamic on set, focusing on delivering a film that met its artistic and narrative goals with passion and dedication.
