In a recent legal development, Hollywood actor Vin Diesel, renowned for his role as Dominic Toretto in the blockbuster “Fast and Furious” film franchise, is facing a lawsuit filed by a former assistant. The plaintiff, Astra Jonasson, accuses Diesel of sexual battery, alleging that the incident occurred during their professional collaboration in 2010.
According to legal documents, Jonasson claims that Diesel forced himself upon her in an Atlanta hotel suite. The complaint outlines a distressing incident where, after being compelled into Diesel’s bed, Jonasson sought to escape the room. Allegedly, Diesel pursued her, groping her breasts and kissing her chest.
The lawsuit goes on to assert that Diesel attempted to forcibly remove Jonasson’s underwear, prompting her to scream and seek refuge in a nearby bathroom. Despite her resistance, the actor allegedly coerced her into touching his erect penis and engaged in masturbation.
Jonasson, terminated by Diesel’s sister Samantha Vincent, who also serves as the president of his production company, One Race Productions, expressed in the lawsuit that she felt degraded, describing herself as a “piece of trash” with her self-esteem shattered.
The legal action against Diesel and his company includes claims of creating a hostile work environment, negligent supervision, and wrongful termination. Jonasson believes her firing was a consequence of resisting Diesel’s advances, asserting that she was used to fulfill his sexual desires, and her resistance led to termination.
As of now, representatives for Vin Diesel have not provided comments on the allegations. Claire-Lise Kutlay, Jonasson’s attorney, emphasized in a statement that the lawsuit aims to hold Diesel and those implicated in covering up the assault accountable for their actions. Kutlay added that employers must protect and defend individuals who speak up about sexual assault and harassment, expressing hope that Jonasson’s courage will contribute to lasting change and empower other survivors.
Diesel, who has portrayed Dominic Toretto since the franchise’s inception in 2001, has not commented on the legal proceedings. The “Fast and Furious” films, known for their box office success, with the last two grossing over $1 billion each, continue to be a popular and lucrative franchise. The most recent installment, “Fast X,” featuring Diesel, opened earlier this year with $67.5 million in ticket sales.
