Television, film, and voice actor Kamar de los Reyes, renowned for his roles in “One Life to Live” and “Call of Duty: Black Ops II,” has passed away at the age of 56 in Los Angeles, as confirmed by his family. The actor succumbed to a brief battle with cancer on Sunday, according to a statement from his wife Sherri Saum’s publicist, Lisa Goldberg.
In the soap opera “One Life to Live,” de los Reyes portrayed Antonio Vega, a former gang member turned lawyer and cop, alongside his wife Sherri Saum. Notably, he also lent his voice to the villainous character Raul Menendez in the popular video game “Call of Duty: Black Ops II.” His versatile career included roles in TV series such as Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow,” ABC’s “The Rookie,” and CW’s “All American.”
At the time of his passing, de los Reyes was actively involved in filming for “All American” and had recently completed roles in Marvel’s upcoming “Daredevil” series and Hulu’s yet-to-be-released “Washington Black,” featuring Sterling K. Brown.
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Las Vegas, de los Reyes developed a passion for acting upon his arrival in Los Angeles in the late ’80s. His early career featured notable roles, including Pedro Quinn in the 1994 off-Broadway play “Blade to the Heat” and Ferdinand in George C. Wolfe’s production of “The Tempest” for Shakespeare in the Park.
In the realm of cinema, de los Reyes graced the screen in films such as Oliver Stone’s “Nixon,” portraying Watergate burglar Eugenio Martinez, and appearing as a secret service agent in “Salt” alongside Angelina Jolie. He also featured in “The Cell” with Jennifer Lopez.
Despite residing in Los Angeles, the family emphasized that de los Reyes maintained a deep connection to Puerto Rico, actively participating in recovery efforts after Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Survived by his wife Sherri Saum and three sons – Caylen, 26, and twins Michael and John, age 9 – Kamar de los Reyes leaves behind a legacy of versatile performances and a commitment to both his craft and community.
