In a recent development in the Telugu film industry, the mythological superhero film ‘Hanu Man’ hit theaters on Friday, January 12, 2024. Directed by Prashanth Varma, the movie boasts a star-studded cast including Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Vinay Rai in pivotal roles. Within just two days of its release, the film has raked in an impressive gross of Rs 30 crore at the box office.
According to reports from Hindustan Times, the film’s production team has taken a significant step by filing a complaint with the Telugu Film Producers Council (TFPC) regarding alleged unfair practices in certain theaters. The makers claim that Mythri Movies Distributor LLP, in agreement with select theaters, assured to screen ‘Hanu Man’ on January 12 but failed to uphold their commitment.
Producer Niranjan Reddy has officially lodged a complaint with the TFPC against the theaters that reneged on the agreement to showcase the film. In response, the TFPC has issued a statement directing these theaters to promptly commence the screening of ‘Hanu Man’ and absorb the losses incurred thus far.
The TFPC’s statement emphasized, “The theaters did not screen the movie ‘Hanu Man’ as per the agreement. The distributors and producers suffered huge losses. So these theaters must immediately start showing the movie ‘Hanu Man’ and bear the loss so far.”
In a stern rebuke, the TFPC has called out the theaters for their unethical actions and instructed them to compensate for the losses. The statement declared, “Theaters that have acted contrary to this need to respect their agreements immediately and offer justice to the film ‘Hanu Man.'”
Notably, ‘Hanu Man’ faced box office competition with Mahesh Babu’s ‘Guntur Kaaram’ on January 12, while Venkatesh Daggubati’s ‘Saindhav’ hit theaters on January 13, and Nagarjuna’s ‘Naa Saami Ranga’ saw its release on the morning of January 14, 2024.
