In a recent episode of Crew Cut, renowned costume designer Niharika Bhasin shared intriguing behind-the-scenes details about the iconic film ‘Delhi Belly,’ which achieved cult status since its release in 2011. The movie, starring Imran Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapur, and Vir Das, is remembered for its unique style.
During the conversation with Vidya Balan, Bhasin disclosed the challenges she faced in achieving the distinctive ‘look’ for ‘Delhi Belly.’ She revealed that due to the characters getting cement and slime on their clothes, washing them was not an option. Imran Khan, who played a leading role, reportedly requested to have his shirt perfumed every time he had to wear it. Despite the challenging situation, Khan willingly embraced the unconventional approach, earning praise from the designer.
Bhasin also shed light on another project, ‘Photograph,’ where she worked on dressing Nawazuddin Siddiqui for his role as a street photographer in the 2019 romantic drama opposite Sanya Malhotra. In a surprising revelation, Bhasin shared that Siddiqui wore the slippers of a street vendor throughout the entire film. The designer’s team initially obtained a new pair of shoes for the vendor, but Siddiqui insisted on wearing the actual slippers from the street vendor.
Niharika Bhasin’s insights into these unconventional costume choices highlight the dedication of the actors and the creative challenges faced behind the scenes of these memorable films.
