Renowned composer Pyarelal Sharma, part of the legendary music duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, was recently honored with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, on the eve of Republic Day. With a career spanning eight decades, the duo has been inseparable in their musical journey. However, the decision to exclude Laxmikant Kudalkar from the Padma Bhushan has stirred controversy.
Expressing dismay, Laxmikant’s wife and family penned a letter to Amit Shah, urging him to investigate the matter. They highlighted the duo’s collaborative journey and questioned the significance of Pyarelal’s recognition without acknowledging Laxmikant’s contributions.
Adding his voice to the discourse, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government to reconsider the decision. Sharing a nostalgic picture from the sets of Subhash Ghai’s ‘Karz,’ Sinha reminisced about the past and emphasized the integral role played by both Laxmikant and Pyarelal in the industry.
Expressing joy for Pyarelal’s achievement, Sinha expressed sorrow for Laxmikant’s omission from the accolade. He called upon the PMO and the government to review the decision and take appropriate corrective measures promptly. Sinha concluded with a patriotic sentiment, saying, “Jai Hind!”
