Actor and music composer Vijay Antony, known for his recent appearance in the Tamil film ‘Raththam’, is currently in the spotlight as he promotes his upcoming movie ‘Romeo’. Directed by Vinayak Vaithiyanathan, the film stars Vijay Antony alongside Mirnalini Ravi in lead roles. The release date for the film is yet to be officially announced.
Amid the promotion of ‘Romeo’, Vijay Antony addressed the controversy surrounding the recently released film poster. The poster depicted Vijay Antony and Mirnalini Ravi seated on a bed in what appeared to be a wedding night scenario, with Vijay Antony holding a glass of milk and Mirnalini Ravi pouring herself an alcoholic drink.
During the promotion, Vijay Antony clarified that the movie does not aim to promote alcoholism or suggest that women consuming alcohol is acceptable. He emphasized that alcohol consumption is not gender-specific and should not be stigmatized when women partake in it.
Responding to inquiries about the influence of the IT revolution on cultural changes among women, Vijay Antony dismissed it as a reason, citing the long-standing presence of alcohol consumption in society. However, his remark about Jesus drinking wine was met with criticism, leading him to issue an apology on social media, clarifying that his words were misinterpreted, and he had no intention of offending anyone’s religious beliefs.
Vijay Antony is currently involved in several other projects, including ‘Khakee’, ‘Valli Mayil’, ‘Agni Siragugal’, and ‘Hitler’, which are at various stages of production. Additionally, he is reportedly set to collaborate with ‘Aruvi’ director Arun Prabhu Purushothaman on his next acting venture.
