Highly Anticipated Malayalam Film ‘Kaathal – The Core’ Starring Mammootty and Jyothika Faces Ban in Two Arab Nations
In a surprising turn of events, the much-awaited Malayalam film ‘Kaathal – The Core,’ featuring powerhouse performances by Mammootty and Jyothika, has been banned in two Arab countries, namely Qatar and Kuwait. The ban comes just days before the scheduled release of the film.
Directed by Jeo Baby, known for his work in ‘The Great Indian Kitchen,’ the film explores the theme of homosexuality and societal attitudes. It has been censored and subsequently prohibited in the two Arab nations, citing adherence to Islamic Sharia law as the reason.
The teaser of the film provides a glimpse into Mammootty’s character, George Martin, who appears to be caught in a growing dilemma. Jyothika’s character, Omana, seems to be grappling with a challenging situation. The teaser also introduces Mammootty’s daughters in the film and features visuals of girls dancing, reminiscent of Jeo Baby’s 2020 film. With a soulful composition by Mathews Pulickan, the teaser hints at the emotional depth and complexity of the upcoming movie. Jyothika’s return to Malayalam cinema after a hiatus of 14 years adds further significance to the film.
Reports suggest that the storyline of ‘Kaathal’ revolves around the challenges faced by individuals within the homosexual community. Initial leaked information hinted at a plot involving a retired bank manager, Mathew Devassy (Mammootty), running for local panchayat elections, with his wife Omana (Jyothika) filing for divorce, alleging his concealed homosexuality and a longstanding relationship with a friend.
Mammootty responded to the leaked information, stating, “The characters of Kaathal are interesting, everyone may have come across some information about it as well, but the main story of the film is yet to be known.” The actor’s recent film, ‘Kannur Squad,’ received acclaim for its plot, execution, music, and performances.
Currently, Mammootty is actively involved in the upcoming film ‘Turbo,’ a collaboration with director Vysakh, described as an action-comedy. Additionally, the actor is set to appear in the horror film ‘Bramayugam’ and an action film titled ‘Bazooka’ next year.
