Hyderabad’s Power Couple: Anam Mirza and Asaduddin’s Love Story
In the heart of Hyderabad, a love story blossomed between Anam Mirza, the younger sister of tennis sensation Sania Mirza, and Mohammad Asaduddin, the son of cricketing legend Azharuddin. Their connection runs deep, not just as Hyderabadis by birth but as lovebirds nurtured by the soul of the city.
Anam humorously notes, “We Hyderabadis have a special love language,” alluding to the city’s culinary delights like biryani and endearing phrases in the local dialect such as ‘Kya ich?’ and ‘Kardo ji!'” Their early dates weren’t extravagant candlelit dinners; instead, they embarked on biryani-fueled adventures, exploring iconic eateries that deepened their connection.
“During our early days of dating, we bonded over Hyderabadi biryani and our shared love for our colourful dialect. We’d choose restaurants known for their biryanis,” Anam explains. Asad adds, “There were lots of coffee dates too. I’m not a fan of coffee, but Anam enjoys it, so I believe we’ve practically visited every café in the city together.”
Their love story, family-approved from the start, has a unique twist. Anam reminisces, “Our parents have been friends for ages, so we naturally clicked. Asad didn’t even propose. He just randomly called me one night and said, ‘Let’s get married!'” Asad, however, remembers it differently, mentioning the thorough screening process conducted by Anam and her sister Sania.
“During our dating phase, I was put on a lot of tests by Anam and her sister Sania. One morning, they randomly called me and instructed me to fly to Dubai by evening. Surprisingly, I complied, convinced my dad, and went to meet Anam there. They orchestrated several similar situations. Later, Sania revealed to me that these were all tests, and I’m pleased to say I passed them with flying colours.”
The couple tied the knot in December 2019 in a traditional Hyderabadi nikaah ceremony. Reflecting on the most cherished moments of their wedding, Anam fondly recalled, “Our nikkah was quintessentially Hyderabadi, reflecting the deep roots our families have in this city. One of my fondest memories of our Nikkah was the outfit that came from Asad’s family, favored by the erstwhile Nizams of Hyderabad. And of course, the food, which holds utmost significance in our culture, was a definite highlight.”
Asad adds, “”Our marriage has been a beautiful journey; we’ve experienced our fair share of highs and lows, but our greatest blessing is our daughter Dua. This city has given us everything we could ask for—cherished childhood memories, a loving family, and enduring love.”
As Valentine’s Day approaches, the couple plans to celebrate with a romantic dinner date. Asad jests, “The celebrations haven’t stopped for us since December. We’ve had our wedding anniversary, followed by my dad’s birthday, and next up is Anam’s birthday. We’ll celebrate that one directly because it will be one big shot for me.”
