In a cinematic revival of the classic “Aranyer Din Ratri,” director Suman Maitra is set to unveil his latest film, ‘Abar Awronne Din Ratri,’ promising a fresh perspective on the timeless narrative that captivated audiences over five decades ago. Inspired by Sunil Gangopadhyay’s novel, the 1970 film by Satyajit Ray left an indelible mark on the Bengali entertainment scene.
Maitra’s adaptation follows the soulful journey of four female friends—Nandini, Enakshi, Sweta, and Mithi—venturing into the heart of North Bengal. Embarking on a transformative exploration of the forested landscapes, captured through their vlog-venture ‘Musafiarana,’ the friends rediscover themselves amidst the natural wonders of Dooars. Against the lush backdrop, the film delves into personal introspection, confronting demons, and forging deeper connections.
As reality blurs within the jungle’s depths, the protagonists grapple with self-acceptance and renewal. ‘Abar Awronne Din Ratri’ culminates in a hopeful embrace of the future, shaped by their shared experiences. While the trailer is eagerly anticipated, the recently unveiled poster encapsulates the essence of the narrative, featuring the four protagonists navigating the natural landscapes of North Bengal, with their friendship thriving at its core.
Notably, on this Women’s Day, acclaimed actresses Rituparna Sengupta, Sohag Sen, Anindita Bose, Madhumita Sarcar, and Rajnandini Paul have joined forces to raise awareness about cyber-crime against women with ‘Najarbandi.’
Suman Maitra, known for films like ‘Dashami,’ ‘Aami o Apu,’ and ‘Shimanto,’ aims to capture the essence of female friendship in ‘Abar Awronne Din Ratri.’ The director expresses his desire to explore the transformative power of friendship and self-discovery against the backdrop of the homeland’s beauty, ensuring a unique cinematic experience for audiences.
Actress Paayel Sarkar takes on the role of Nandini, with Rupsha Mukhopadhyay portraying Enakshi, Alivia Sarkar as Mithi, and Yukta Rakshit embodying the character of Sweta. Produced by Indo Americana Production, ‘Abar Awronne Din Ratri’ is slated for release in April 2024, promising a compelling journey of self-discovery and friendship against the scenic landscapes of North Bengal.
