In a surprising turn of events, Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa sparked controversy during the 50th-day celebration of his film ‘Kaatera’. Taking the stage, Darshan openly criticized Umapathy, the producer of the highly successful film ‘Roberrt’.
Addressing the audience, Darshan vehemently contested Umapathy’s claim to the title and creation of ‘Kaatera’. The actor boldly asserted himself as the true originator of the title and challenged Umapathy’s statements. To support his claim, Darshan enlisted the confirmation of directors Mahesh Kumar and Tharun Sudhir from ‘Madhagaja’ and ‘Kaatera’, respectively.
Umapathy swiftly countered Darshan’s narrative, offering a different version of events. He revealed that the title ‘Kaatera’ was initially registered under his name and later transferred to Darshan in exchange for the title ‘Madhagaja’. Umapathy went further, accusing Darshan and his team of inflating box office figures for ‘Roberrt’ and claimed significant financial losses on his part.
Adding another layer to the controversy, Umapathy disclosed that he turned down a lucrative offer from a prominent OTT platform during the COVID-19 pandemic, allegedly due to the insistence of Darshan’s team. According to Umapathy, this decision resulted in a staggering loss of 13 crores.
