In the accompanying note, Hydari reflected on her childhood aversion to the bindi, known as “bottu” in Hyderabad, despite its deep roots in southern Indian tradition. She described how her perspective changed during the filming of ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ in 2017. The actress reminisced about her mother’s elegant use of kumkum bottu, made from turmeric and vermillion, highlighting its significance in daily life.
Hydari expressed that the transformative experience occurred during the filming process with Mani Ratnam, spanning costume trials with designer Eka Lakhani and shooting in various locations, including Ooty, Ladakh, and Serbia. Despite facing challenging conditions such as freezing cold temperatures, the actress developed a deep attachment to the bindi, fondly referring to it as her “favorite little black bottu.”
