In a recent interview, seasoned actor Anthony Hopkins opened up about his preference for solitude, dubbing himself a “loner” with only a handful of friends. The acclaimed star of ‘The Silence Of The Lambs’ clarified that while he values his alone time, he is not antisocial, maintaining a fulfilling family life and staying occupied with work and hobbies.
Speaking to People, Hopkins shared, “I’m very much a loner. I have very few friends. I’m not antisocial. I’m friendly, but I don’t seek out (company) … I do enjoy solitude. I know that sounds morbid, but I do enjoy it.” Despite his serious demeanor, the actor has displayed a lighter side on TikTok, engaging in goofy dance videos, a platform he admitted joining at the behest of his wife Stella and 20-year-old niece Tara.
Expressing a certain reluctance, he stated, “I’m slightly reluctant. I say: ‘Oh no, not again.’ But I do something silly because we need humor. We need a laugh in life. For good reason, I guess; life is tough. The world is a savage place, but life does have its beauty.”
Reflecting on his own mortality, Hopkins acknowledged that he is aware of his limited time in the industry but affirmed his excellent health after a recent medical check-up. He shared, “I’m aware of my mortality. To be realistic, I know that if I have a few more years of work left in me, I can do it. I’ve just had a medical check-up, I’m in good shape.”
The interview coincides with the celebration of Hopkins’ almost five decades of sobriety, marking 2024 as his 49th year free from alcohol.
