As the highly anticipated “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” gears up for its theatrical debut on December 22, box office projections for its domestic opening weekend range between $32 million and $42 million. While these figures fall short of its predecessor’s $67 million debut, “Aquaman,” it’s crucial to highlight the latter film’s global triumph, surpassing the $1 billion mark in box office earnings.
Marked as one of the most financially ambitious projects in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” comes with a hefty $215 million budget. The film’s financial success hinges on surpassing the $400 million mark in global box office earnings. To offset its substantial production costs effectively, the film must outperform its predecessor and earn international acclaim. All eyes are on the film, emphasizing the need for robust international performance to ensure its financial viability.
However, amid the excitement surrounding the film’s release, netizens express dissatisfaction over Jason Momoa’s alleged rude behavior towards Nigella Lawson. The actor, praised for his role as Aquaman, faces potential challenges as he openly shares skepticism about the future of the DC superhero franchise.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Momoa voiced concerns about future installments while promoting “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” The actor admitted, “I don’t necessarily want it to be the end… [but] I don’t think it’s really, like, a choice.” Acknowledging the possibility of reprising the role based on audience reception, Momoa stated, “But right now, I’m like, ‘It’s not looking too good.'”
“I love this character and [I would want to] play it for a long time. I kind of see where I would want it to go. And even in the next 10 years or so, like there’s a lot of cool things they can do. And I do enjoy the role and the world. So, I mean, it just comes down to if people love it,” Momoa added.
It’s worth noting that Momoa first appeared as Aquaman in 2017’s Justice League before leading his own standalone film the following year. The actor, also known for his role in ‘Game of Thrones,’ continues to be a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
In a separate achievement, Jason Momoa’s ‘Deep Rising’ recently secured the top award at the All Living Things Environment Film Festival, showcasing the actor’s diverse contributions to the world of cinema.
