Telugu superstars Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, and Allu Arjun have joined the growing list of celebrities contributing to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) to aid in the rehabilitation efforts following the devastating landslide in Wayanad district, Kerala. The landslide, which struck in the early hours of July 30, has claimed 219 lives, according to state government reports.
In a heartfelt post on X, Chiranjeevi expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and announced that he and his son, “RRR” star Ram Charan, are donating Rs 1 crore to the CMDRF. He conveyed his distress over the loss of lives and devastation caused by the landslides, stating, “Charan and I together are contributing Rs 1 crore to the Kerala CM Relief Fund as a token of our support to the victims. My prayers for the recovery of all those in pain!”
Allu Arjun also announced his support on X, stating his sadness over the Wayanad landslide and his desire to contribute to the relief efforts. He pledged Rs 25 lakh to the Kerala CM Relief Fund, acknowledging the state’s love and support for him. “I am deeply saddened by the recent landslide in Wayanad. Kerala has always given me so much love, and I want to do my bit by donating ₹25 lakh to the Kerala CM Relief Fund to support the rehabilitation work. Praying for your safety and strength,” he wrote.
In addition, Malayalam cinema veteran Mohanlal, who is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army, visited Wayanad in his Army uniform and pledged Rs 3 crore for rehabilitation efforts. He described the disaster as a “deep wound” and expressed his condolences to those affected.
Other celebrities from the Tamil and Malayalam film industries have also made significant contributions. Tamil actors Kamal Haasan, Suriya, Jyotika, Karthi, Vikram, Nayanthara, and Vignesh Sivan, along with Malayalam stars Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan, Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya, and Tovino Thomas, have donated to the CMDRF. Kamal Haasan gave Rs 25 lakh, Jyotika, Suriya, and Karthi collectively donated Rs 50 lakh, while Mammootty contributed Rs 20 lakh. Dulquer Salmaan donated Rs 15 lakh, and Tovino Thomas and Fahadh Faasil, along with Nazriya, each contributed Rs 25 lakh. Filmmaker Anand Patwardhan also donated Rs 2.2 lakh, which he received as prize money from the 16th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK).
