Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and actress Dakota Johnson have reportedly ended their 7-year romance and called off their engagement, according to sources cited by MailOnline. The couple, who began dating in 2017 and were engaged for several years, decided to part ways after reportedly growing increasingly distant.
The split rumors intensified when Johnson was seen in Malibu without her engagement ring, while Martin is currently in Munich, Germany, for Coldplay’s ‘Music of the Spheres’ world tour. This is not the first time the couple has faced breakup rumors; in 2019, they briefly separated amid differing views on having children but later reconciled.
An insider revealed that despite their efforts to salvage the relationship over recent months, both Martin and Johnson have concluded that they cannot sustain the relationship long-term. The source attributed their decision to their busy schedules and personal priorities.
Johnson, who gained fame for her role in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, and Martin were last seen together in February during a vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Their relationship, which first gained attention in October 2017, faced challenges but appeared to recover after a “rocky patch.”
Engagement speculation began in December 2020 when Johnson was photographed wearing a large emerald ring. The couple confirmed their engagement and moved into a shared Malibu home in January 2021.
Martin was previously married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow. The couple announced their ‘conscious uncoupling’ in 2014 after a decade of marriage and have remained committed to co-parenting their two children, Apple, 20, and Moses, 18.
