In a recent interview, actress Delbar Arya shared insights into her journey in the Punjabi film industry. Arya, born to a Parsi father from Iran and a Kashmiri mother, made her entry into the industry in 2018 with Guru Randhawa’s music video “Downtown”. Having moved to India from Germany in 2017, Arya comes from an artistic background, with her father being an actor in Iran, her mother a singer, and her brother involved in the arts.
Arya reflected on her transition to Punjabi cinema, citing her debut in Harbhajan Mann’s film “PR”, followed by Jimmy Sheirgill’s “Tu Hovein Main Hovan”. Currently working on her third film, “Damdaa”, Arya emphasized her preference for de-glam roles, stating that they allow the focus to remain on the actor’s craft rather than their appearance.
Acknowledging the challenges of breaking into an industry known for favoring established actors, Arya expressed her determination to win over audiences despite not being a native of the region. However, she noted the warmth and acceptance she has received from the people of Punjab.
Apart from her film endeavors, Arya has also ventured into music, collaborating with Rajneesh Duggal and Pratik Sehajpal, as well as featuring in two web series and another Punjabi music video with singer Singga.
