In a surprising turn of events, Dileep’s much-anticipated film, ‘Thankamani,’ has defied initial skepticism and managed to generate an impressive pre-sales revenue of Rs 22.46 lakhs. The film, slated to be a crime thriller, has created a buzz among audiences even before its official release on March 7.
Reports from the Kerala box office Twitter forum indicate that ‘Thankamani’ achieved this notable pre-sales figure with a substantial show count of 453, showcasing a keen interest from the audience. Despite tepid reactions to the promotional material, the film has outperformed the pre-sales record of the recent comedy drama ‘Premalu,’ which earned Rs 20.33 lakhs across approximately 427 shows.
Comparatively, ‘Manjummel Boys’ maintains its lead in pre-sales business, boasting an outstanding figure of around Rs 50.79 lakhs in 692 shows.
Directed and written by Ratheesh Reghunandan, ‘Thankamani’ unravels as a crime thriller with a plot centered around a historical dispute in October 1986 between students from Thankamani village and a private bus owner. The narrative revolves around the lack of proper roads servicing the area, with Dileep taking on the lead role to enhance the film’s appeal.
Dileep’s previous film, the action drama ‘Bandra,’ failed to impress audiences, making ‘Thankamani’ a crucial release for the actor in regaining audience favor. The film’s unexpected success in pre-sales indicates a potential turnaround in Dileep’s fortunes at the box office.
