In a heartfelt tribute to Carl Weathers, the Directors Guild Foundation (DGF) has announced the renaming of its primary annual fundraising event. Going forward, the event will be known as the Directors Guild Foundation Carl Weathers Memorial Golf Tournament.
Weathers, celebrated for his iconic roles such as Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films, and memorable performances in Predator, The Mandalorian, Happy Gilmore, Action Jackson, and Arrested Development, passed away in February at the age of 76. His illustrious career spanned across decades and genres, leaving an indelible mark on both the big and small screens.
DGF Chairman Todd Holland praised Weathers’ dedication to the Foundation. “Carl Weathers was the embodiment of dedication to the Directors Guild and the Foundation,” Holland said. “For over two decades, he devoted himself to serving the DGA, including as an officer of the Foundation since 2012. Relishing the opportunity to give back, connect with peers, and enjoy quality time with friends and colleagues on the green, Carl Weathers eagerly anticipated the Directors Guild Foundation’s annual golf tournament, as both a participant and MC of the Tournament reception.”
Holland further emphasized Weathers’ deep commitment, stating, “His unwavering commitment to the DGF’s vital mission and to supporting events like the Golf Tournament was truly inspiring. Carl’s passion and support have left an indelible mark that will be remembered for years to come. By renaming our annual Golf Tournament to honor him, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of this remarkable man that has enriched our community. Carl’s enduring legacy will forever be woven into the fabric of the DGF’s endeavors.”
The newly named Directors Guild Foundation Carl Weathers Memorial Golf Tournament is set to take place on Monday, June 24, at the Wilshire Country Club. This event continues to uphold its mission of benefiting the Directors Guild Foundation, with all proceeds supporting the institution’s longstanding tradition of aiding Guild members and the industry for over seventy years.
