Focus Features and Universal Pictures International have announced that “Downton Abbey 3” will premiere in theaters on September 12, 2025. The highly anticipated third installment is currently being filmed in the UK under the direction of Simon Curtis, who also directed the previous film, “Downton Abbey: A New Era.”
Julian Fellowes, the creator of the beloved series and an Oscar-winning screenwriter, has penned the script for the new movie. The film is being produced by Gareth Neame, Julian Fellowes, and Liz Trubridge, all of whom are acclaimed for their BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning work.
Returning to reprise their roles in “Downton Abbey 3” are series regulars Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, Douglas Reith, and Dominic West. Joining the esteemed cast are newcomers Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, Arty Froushan, and many others.
The film is produced by Carnival Films, a division of Universal International Studios under the Universal Studio Group umbrella.
The “Downton Abbey” franchise has seen significant box office success. The first film, released in 2019, remains Focus Features’ highest-grossing film to date, earning over $194 million worldwide and achieving a record domestic opening of $31 million. Combined, the two previous films have grossed $287.2 million globally, cementing the franchise’s status as a major box office draw.
