In the wake of the successes of “Pathaan” and “Jawan,” Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for his third cinematic venture of 2023, “Dunki,” in collaboration with director Rajkumar Hirani. Known for blockbuster films such as the Munnabhai series, “3 Idiots,” “PK,” and “Sanju,” this marks the maiden partnership between Hirani and SRK. The film is set to make its debut in Indian theaters on December 22, preceded by a US release on December 21.
Despite facing initial challenges in advance ticket sales in the US, the recent release of the trailer and a new song has sparked a significant surge in interest. “Dunki” has now crossed the $100,000 mark in pre-sales. The film is currently offering tickets at approximately 404 locations, with 1131 scheduled shows. Impressively, it has already sold about 8510 tickets, accumulating a collection of $116,674 (Rs 97 Lakhs). With less than 10 days remaining until the premiere, expectations are high for an even more favorable ticket sales frequency.
Originally planned as a solo release, “Dunki” now faces competition as Prashanth Neel and Prabhas gear up for the release of “Salaar: Part One- Ceasefire” on the same day. Post-production delays pushed back the release date of “Salaar” from its original September 28 schedule. As advance bookings for both films commence in the next few days, anticipation is building to see how audiences will respond to these two cinematic offerings.
In addition to Shah Rukh Khan, “Dunki” boasts a stellar cast including Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and Boman Irani. Meanwhile, “Salaar” features Prithviraj, Tinnu Anand, and Shruti Haasan alongside Prabhas. The competition between the two films adds an extra layer of excitement as moviegoers eagerly await the December releases.
