Fans of Sai Pallavi have voiced their dissatisfaction on social media following the announcement of the 70th National Film Awards on Monday. Nithya Menen received the Best Actress award for her role in Thiruchitrambalam, but Sai Pallavi’s supporters were disappointed by the decision, arguing that her performance in Gargi was deserving of the accolade.
Despite expressing their happiness for Menen, fans questioned why Gargi did not receive recognition. One Twitter user expressed emotional frustration, asserting that “Sai Pallavi deserved Best Actress for Gargi. No offense to Nithya Menen, but the role in Gargi had more emotion and was much heavier to carry compared to Shobana’s role in Thiruchitrambalam.”
Another fan emphasized their disappointment, stating, “Sai Pallavi as #GARGI deserves a National Award more than anyone else. The script, the screenplay, the performance—everything about the movie is top class. Disappointed with the #NationalFilmAwards announcement.”
Additional reactions on social media echoed these sentiments. One user expressed their feelings for both Mammootty and Sai Pallavi, noting, “#Mammootty undeniably deserves the #NationalAward, but he is one of those artists who transcends such accolades. I’m thrilled for #NithyaMenen’s win, though I would have been even happier if #SaiPallavi had won for her earnest performance in #Gargi.”
Another user highlighted the exceptional nature of Sai Pallavi’s performance, stating, “What Sai Pallavi did in Gargi was exceptional, extraordinary, and mind-blowing. She lived as the character, which is not easy to perform. She deserves the National Award more than anyone else. You will be loved forever, Gargi, regardless of awards. One of the finest performances by Sai Pallavi.”
Meanwhile, South Jury member MB Padmakumar clarified on Instagram that none of Mammootty’s films were submitted for consideration by the makers or the state.
Directed by Gautham Ramachandran, Gargi also featured Kaali Venkat, R. S. Shivaji, Saravanan, Livingston, Jayaprakash, and Kavithalaya Krishnan. Nithya Menen won the Best Actress Award for her performance in Thiruchitrambalam, directed by Mithran R Jawahar, which also starred Dhanush in a significant role.
