The film GOAT, starring Vijay in the lead role, was released on September 5 and had a strong opening. The highly-anticipated film grossed over Rs 288 crore during its first weekend of four days, as officially confirmed by the filmmakers. However, the movie saw a slowdown in collections during the weekdays. Despite this, GOAT saw a resurgence during its second weekend, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where it performed remarkably well.
According to Cinetrak, the film grossed approximately Rs 15 crore in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, marking back-to-back double-digit earnings in Vijay’s home state. The total box office collection in Tamil Nadu is estimated to be around Rs 190 crore, and the film is expected to cross the Rs 200 crore mark in the coming days.
On a broader scale, GOAT has grossed over Rs 390 crore in just 11 days and is on track to surpass the Rs 400 crore milestone soon. This achievement will make GOAT Vijay’s second film after Leo to cross the 400 crore mark, positioning him as the only Kollywood actor to have two consecutive films achieve such a feat. Official box office figures are expected to be released soon, quelling any speculation surrounding the film’s earnings.
Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT features an ensemble cast including Sneha, Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Ajmal, Jayaram, Mohan, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Laila, Premgi Amaren, and Vaibhav. Vijay plays dual roles in the film, portraying both a father and son. The music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, with Siddharth Nuni handling cinematography and Venkat Raajen overseeing editing.
