Actor Halle Berry has teased the possibility of reprising her role as Catwoman, a character she first portrayed in the 2004 film directed by Pitof. However, Berry, now 58, has made it clear that her return would come with one significant condition: she would need to direct the film herself.
During an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Berry was asked about the likelihood of stepping back into the Catwoman suit. With a smile, she responded, “Maybe, if I could direct it.” This playful remark has sparked excitement among fans, who are eager at the prospect of seeing Berry not only return to the role but also take on a creative leadership position.
Reflecting on the 20th anniversary of “Catwoman,” Berry expressed a continued fondness for the film, despite its negative critical reception at the time of its release. “I loved it,” she said, acknowledging the harsh reviews but noting the film’s newfound appreciation among younger audiences. “What I’m happy about is… the children have found it now on the internet. The kids love it. So it’s so vindicating because now they’re saying, ‘It’s cool,’ and ‘What the heck was everybody’s problem with it?’ So, I’m like, ‘I’m so brat now,'” Berry added, embracing the film’s resurgence.
The 2004 film, which had a significant budget of USD 100 million, was written by John Rogers, John Brancato, and Michael Ferris, based on a story by Theresa Rebeck. It starred Berry alongside Benjamin Bratt, Lambert Wilson, Frances Conroy, Alex Borstein, and Sharon Stone. Despite the high expectations, “Catwoman” earned only USD 82.4 million globally and was widely panned by critics, resulting in several Razzie Awards in 2005, including Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay.
Berry herself received the Razzie for Worst Actress but famously attended the ceremony to accept the award in person, showcasing her sense of humor despite the film’s failure.
