Renowned Tamil film director Vetrimaaran, hailed as one of the most successful and prominent figures in the industry, is garnering attention for his upcoming project, ‘Viduthalai 2.’ With a significant fan base extending beyond Kollywood, including admirers in Bollywood such as director Anurag Kashyap, Vetrimaaran is celebrated for his unique filmmaking style, characterized by raw and original storytelling.
The latest buzz surrounding the director involves his decision to incorporate cutting-edge VFX technology in ‘Viduthalai 2.’ This move places the film in the distinguished company of ‘Indian 2’ and the tentatively titled ‘Thalapathy 68,’ making it the third Tamil film to leverage advanced VFX techniques. While the pre-production phase unfolded in London over the past few months, the shooting for the film is currently in progress.
Reports suggest that Vetrimaaran will utilize de-aging technology in the VFX work, a method previously employed by directors Shankar in ‘Indian 2’ and Venkat Prabhu in ‘Thalapathy 68.’ This technology will be employed to portray the earlier and youthful versions of Vijay Sethupathi, the lead actor in the film. The narrative is expected to delve into the backstory of how Sethupathi’s character evolved into a formidable Naxalite leader during the 1960s.
‘Viduthalai 2’ serves as a sequel and continuation of the storyline initiated by ‘Viduthalai 1,’ released in February of the current year. The original film featured a cast including Soori, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, and Vijay Sethupathi, with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The sequel will introduce new additions to the cast, with Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj reportedly joining. Speculations suggest that Warrier will portray the role of Vijay Sethupathi’s wife in the film.
