In a significant breakthrough for the entertainment industry, Hollywood studios and the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) have reached a provisional agreement, effectively bringing an end to the second of two strikes that have disrupted production since May. The tentative deal, announced by the union on November 8, follows months of negotiations during which SAG-AFTRA members, who went on strike in mid-July, advocated for higher minimum salaries, a fair share of streaming service revenue, and safeguards against potential replacement by “digital replicas” generated through artificial intelligence (AI). Pending the ratification vote by union members in the coming weeks, this breakthrough paves the way for Hollywood to resume full-scale production for the first time in months.
