Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson Eye Roles in Kathryn Bigelow’s Upcoming Netflix Film
Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson are reportedly in discussions to join the cast of Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow’s new film for Netflix. The details surrounding their roles, the film’s title, and its plot are being kept under wraps. However, sources indicate the movie will be set in the White House amidst a national crisis. This project marks Bigelow’s return to feature filmmaking since her 2017 thriller “Detroit,” which starred John Boyega, Will Poulter, and Kaitlyn Dever, and was produced by Annapurna Pictures.
Netflix revealed news of the film during its recent Upfront presentation in New York. This announcement comes after Bigelow’s previously planned Netflix project, an adaptation of David Koepp’s novel “Aurora,” did not come to fruition.
Elba, currently starring in the Apple TV+ thriller series “Hijack,” which is set for a second season, has also been seen recently in Paramount+’s “Sonic the Hedgehog” miniseries “Knuckles,” and the Netflix hits “Extraction II” and “Luther: The Fallen Sun.” His upcoming projects include the Amazon MGM action thriller “Heads of State,” alongside Carla Gugino and Jack Quaid, and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.”
Ferguson leads in Apple TV+’s popular sci-fi series “Silo,” which will return for its second season. She also recently reprised her role in Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to “Dune” and starred opposite Tom Cruise in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.” Her next role is in Amazon’s sci-fi film “Mercy,” co-starring Chris Pratt.
The involvement of Elba and Ferguson in Bigelow’s film was first reported by Jeff Sneider of The InSneider.
