Indresh Malik, known for his roles in TV shows like “Udaariyaan” and “Madhubala,” as well as films such as “Gumraah” and “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” is set to take on a queer character in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming web series “Heeramandi.” With a diverse acting portfolio spanning across television, web, and cinema, Malik has consistently showcased his versatility as an actor.
A source close to the production house commented on Malik’s performance, stating, “As an actor, Indresh has given his best in his portrayal of the queer character. With meticulous research and consultation, he has delivered a very interesting performance.”
“Heeramandi” boasts a star-studded cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Richa Chadha in pivotal roles. Set in the 1940s, the series revolves around the lives of courtesans.
Following the completion of his shooting for “Gangubhai Kathiawadi,” Malik took to social media to express his gratitude, posting, “I did my little bit in Gangubhai Kathiawadi, thank you Sanjay Leela Bhansali.”
Malik began his acting career with the TV show “12/24 Karol Bagh” and has since portrayed intriguing characters in shows like “Badtameez Dil” and “Udaariyaan,” as well as web series such as “Gumraah” and “Pataal Lok.” While many actors have taken on queer roles in both TV and film, the portrayal of such characters in the TV industry has often been criticized for lacking depth and seriousness. Recently, actors like Mohit Malik in the web show “Chamak” and Paras Madaan in “Beyhadh 2” have played bisexual characters, highlighting the evolving landscape of queer representation in Indian entertainment.
Despite attempts to reach out to him, Indresh Malik remained unavailable for comment.
