Unni Mukundan’s latest film ‘Jai Ganesh’ hit the big screens on Thursday, April 11, alongside other Malayalam releases ‘Varshangalkku Shesham’ and ‘Aavesham’. Directed by Ranjith Sankar, ‘Jai Ganesh’ tells the story of Ganesh, a paraplegic graphic artist. Despite expectations that the film would be a major player among the Eid-Vishu releases from Malayalam, its opening-day box office collections tell a different story.
According to a report by Sacnilk, ‘Jai Ganesh’ only managed to collect Rs 40 lakh in net collections in India, with the worldwide box office collection standing at Rs 45 lakh. The film had an occupancy rate of 29.14%, as reported by What the Fuss.
A tweet from the Kerala Box Office on X (formerly Twitter) indicated that the film’s Kerala gross collection was Rs 54 lakh. The tweet read, “#JaiGanesh day 1 Kerala gross – ₹54 Lakhs ~ Strictly needs a stronghold in the coming days to survive from the BOX OFFICE! Reviews are good, especially from the family audience.”
The weekend collections, particularly on Sunday for the occasion of Vishu, will be crucial for ‘Jai Ganesh’ and the other releases.
Meanwhile, Fahadh Faasil’s ‘Aavesham’ is leading the box office among the Eid-Vishu Malayalam releases. The film, directed by Jithu Madhavan, reportedly earned Rs 3.8 crore in India on its opening day, with an overall occupancy rate of 73.57%.
‘Varshangalkku Shesham’, directed by Dhyan Sreenivasan and starring Pranav Mohanlal, also had a decent start, raking in Rs 2.8 crore on its first day.
Overall, Mollywood is gearing up with a variety of Eid-Vishu releases, with each film hoping to make its mark at the box office.
