Filmmaker James Gunn, known for his work on the upcoming Superman movie, surprised fans on the first day of filming by announcing a title change. Initially named “Superman: Legacy,” the film will now go by the simpler title “Superman.”
Gunn, who is both the writer and director of the movie, shared this update along with a glimpse of the Superman logo featuring a snowy texture, hinting at a scene set in The Fortress of Solitude, Superman’s icy hideaway. The announcement also included a star-studded cast, with David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
The film, scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, marks the first standalone Superman project in over a decade since Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel,” starring Henry Cavill.
Gunn expressed a personal connection to the Superman character in a previous interview, citing similarities with feeling like an outsider who also possesses immense power and influence.
With Gunn leading both the writing and directing, fans can anticipate a fresh take on the iconic superhero as “Superman” unfolds with its updated title and ambitious vision for the beloved character’s cinematic future. Additionally, Milly Alcock from ‘House of the Dragon’ has secured a role in the film, with Gunn praising her embodiment of the character Supergirl.
