More than a year after a health crisis that left him comatose for three weeks, Jamie Foxx is finally shedding light on the ordeal. The Academy Award winner shared details of his April 2023 illness in a candid video recorded in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, which was posted on social media on Monday.
In the video, Foxx recalled the harrowing experience: “April 11 last year, [I had] a bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil,” he began, snapping his fingers. “I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything.”
Foxx elaborated on the incident, explaining how his sister and daughter had rushed him to see a doctor in Atlanta after his condition worsened. “The first doctor gave me a cortisone shot and dismissed it. The next doctor said, ‘Something’s going on up there.’ I won’t say it on camera,” Foxx recounted.
Foxx’s hospitalization in April 2023 was shrouded in mystery after he suffered an undisclosed “medical complication” on the Atlanta set of his upcoming Netflix movie “Back in Action,” where he stars alongside Cameron Diaz. The day after the incident, his daughter Corrine Foxx shared on Instagram that her father was already on the mend.
Foxx’s health scare generated significant concern among fans and colleagues. A month after the hospitalization, Corrine announced that her father had been “out of the hospital for weeks” and was even well enough to play pickleball.
Foxx made his first public appearance post-illness in December at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television Honoring Black, Latino & AAPI Achievements. During his acceptance speech for the Vanguard Award, he opened up about his recovery journey. Reflecting on the challenging period, Foxx revealed, “I couldn’t actually walk six months ago. I’ve been through some things.”
He expressed deep gratitude for the support he received and emphasized how the experience has transformed his perspective on life. “I cherish every single minute now — it’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over … when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel — I didn’t see the light,” Foxx admitted.
Foxx’s revelations have resonated deeply with his fans, offering a glimpse into his strength and resilience during one of the most trying times of his life.
