Renowned actor Jayaram has returned to the Malayalam cinema scene after a three-year hiatus with the eagerly awaited medical thriller “Abraham Ozler.” In an exclusive interview with Film Companion, Jayaram candidly discussed his decision to step away from Malayalam cinema in 2020, attributing the break to familial advice urging him to wait for a compelling project. Ultimately, it was director Midhun Manuel Thomas who persuaded Jayaram to take on the lead role in “Abraham Ozler.”
The actor initially hesitated to commit to the project, expressing reservations about whether he was the right fit for the role. Highlighting that the film is more of a crime thriller and emotional drama than an action-packed venture, Jayaram detailed his meticulous approach to script selection, prioritizing quality over quantity in his filmography.
Admitting to reluctance in preparing for the challenging role, which involves portraying a character with a tragic backstory in two different timelines, Jayaram eventually accepted after the director’s unwavering confidence and the potential shelving of the project if he declined. To authentically embody his character’s journey, the actor underwent physical transformations, including gaining weight and growing a long beard.
“Abraham Ozler” boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Anaswara Rajan, Dileesh Pothan, Arya Salim, Jagadish, and Arjun Ashok, promising a captivating experience in this intriguing medical thriller. The film, having hit the big screens today, is anticipated to be a riveting addition to the thriller genre.
