British actor Jude Law recently opened up about his brief consideration of playing Superman in the never-produced film “Superman: Flyby.” Written by J.J. Abrams, the project aimed to offer a fresh take on the iconic superhero’s origin story.
In a conversation with The Playlist, Law recounted his thoughts on the role. “This is true. There was definitely a process of flirtation happening,” Law said. “I always had reservations because it didn’t feel right to me. I know people might point out, ‘But you played Yonn-Rogg and Dumbledore!’ but Superman just seemed like a step too far.”
Law explained that the project was to be directed by Brett Ratner and was still in early development. “I don’t remember there being a script at the time,” he noted. “This was quite a long time ago. They thought bringing me the suit might change my mind.”
He went on to describe the moment he tried on the Superman suit. “When I saw myself in the mirror, there was a part of me that thought, ‘Wow, this could be amazing,’ but I quickly realized it wasn’t right for me. I just couldn’t convince myself to take on the role.”
Ultimately, Law decided to walk away from the project, which never came to fruition. Reflecting on his decision, he added, “The film never happened, so perhaps it wouldn’t have made a difference anyway.”
