As the countdown begins for the release of Nag Ashwin’s much-anticipated film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, excitement is reaching new heights. Set to hit the screens on June 27, the film has generated significant buzz, with advance ticket sales in North America alone already netting over $2.6 million. However, the film’s anticipation was recently overshadowed by rumors claiming the cancellation of IMAX 3D screenings across India.
Social media was abuzz with tweets alleging that IMAX 3D shows had been called off nationwide, causing panic among fans eager to experience the film in the immersive format. Some claimed their tickets were being canceled in various cities, leaving only 2D options available.
Addressing these rumors, sources told ETimes that the allegations are unfounded. The sources clarified that the calibration for 3D screenings takes more time and assured fans that 3D bookings would be available soon.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is set in a dystopian future and is inspired by Hindu scriptures. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film’s star-studded cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Brahmanandam, Shobhana, Saswata Chatterjee, Pasupathy, and Malvika Nair. Bachchan portrays Ashwatthama, Prabhas takes on the role of Bhairava, Haasan plays Supreme Yaskin, Deepika Padukone is SUM-80, a pregnant lab subject, and Disha Patani stars as Roxie.
The film’s impending release has already seen significant pre-release success, with over 1.3 million tickets sold in advance and a staggering Rs 40 crore in Day 1 bookings. Analysts predict that ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is on track to make a Rs 200 crore debut, making it a strong contender both domestically and in international markets.
