In a bid to captivate viewers amidst the era of OTT dominance, Kannada television is strategically generating excitement with the recent promotional release of the upcoming daily soap, “Shri Gowri.” The teaser, featuring Karthik in the lead role, has stirred curiosity among audiences, drawing parallels to Rishab Shetty’s renowned film, “Kantara,” notably in its portrayal of a Kambala scene.
Acknowledging the intentional effort to grab attention, serial creator and actor Jaganaath revealed that “Shri Gowri” marks a pioneering move as the first daily soap set in Mangaluru. The promotional content strategically incorporates the Kambala event as a pivotal element in the storyline, where two rival families vie for control of the village.
Jaganaath, the director, addresses the inevitable comparisons and memes circulating online, emphasizing the series’s intention to pay homage to the cinematic benchmark set by “Kantara.” He notes, “Kantara is a film that can’t be touched, but this is just a humble attempt to give people the same flavor inspired by this great film.”
Highlighting the commitment to authenticity, Jaganaath shares that the lead actor, Karthik, underwent three weeks of training in Mangalore with the same instructor who coached Rishab Shetty for “Kantara.” The promotional shoot took place in the same arena where Shetty rehearsed for the iconic film.
Despite the memes circulating, Jaganaath expresses satisfaction in providing audiences with something novel to anticipate, emphasizing that the series aims to deliver a unique experience inspired by the essence of “Kantara.”
