Kevin Spacey, the acclaimed actor recently acquitted of multiple sexual misconduct allegations, shared a deeply personal and emotional account of his current life in a revealing interview with Piers Morgan. Speaking openly for over an hour on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Spacey delved into his financial troubles, emotional state, and personal history, marking his first extensive interview since prevailing in most of the lawsuits against him over recent years.
Reflecting on his past and the tumultuous journey through the legal battles, Spacey admitted, “I have nothing to hide and I want to live a more open life than the one that I did.” This comes after a brief conversation with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo last month, where Spacey began to touch on these topics.
During the interview, Spacey, who has been in financial distress, disclosed that his home in Baltimore is facing foreclosure and will soon be sold off at a drastically reduced price. Choking up, he confessed, “I’m not quite sure where I’m going to live now.” The actor, a two-time Oscar winner, emphasized that he is broke and still burdened by millions in legal fees.
Spacey also spoke candidly about his personal life and struggles with his identity. “I’ve spent so many years not wanting to talk about myself and avoiding questions about my personal life and my sexuality,” he said, identifying as gay and sharing how his mother did not protect him from his neo-Nazi father.
Reflecting on the allegations made against him by actor Anthony Rapp in 2017, Spacey described entering “a very, very dark place” following the accusations. Rapp, in a BuzzFeed article and in court, alleged that Spacey, then 26, made an unwanted sexual advance toward him when he was 14. Spacey again denied these charges, asserting that Rapp and a friend had come to his home merely to see his dog. A jury found Spacey not liable in the 2022 lawsuit brought by Rapp. Offering a perspective on Rapp’s allegations, Spacey spoke of forgiveness and expressed hope that Rapp might someday recognize he had a “faulty memory.”
These allegations were among several that thrust Spacey into the spotlight of the #MeToo movement in 2017. Last year, a London jury found Spacey not guilty on nine charges of sexual assault related to incidents involving four men between 2001 and 2013.
Spacey continues to face legal challenges, including a civil trial in the UK next year involving a man who alleges Spacey sexually assaulted him, causing significant psychological and financial harm. The court has granted the man anonymity. Additionally, Spacey owes $31 million to House of Cards producers, Media Rights Capital, after his actions were found to have breached his acting and producing agreements, leading to the show’s premature end.
Despite the ongoing controversies and financial burdens, Spacey maintains a stance free of bitterness, anger, or resentment. When asked about his personal flaws, he acknowledged moments of arrogance and ego but expressed a commitment to proving his good character.
A recent two-part documentary, “Spacey Unmasked,” which aired in the UK and is now available on Max, scrutinizes Spacey’s alleged sexual misconduct, including accusations of groping a co-actor on the set of House of Cards. Yet, amid the continuing scrutiny, Spacey seems determined to rebuild his life and reputation.
