In the wake of its box office success, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’ is facing substantial criticism for perpetuating a toxic and masculine narrative. Actress Khushbu Sundar, despite not having viewed the film herself, has raised significant concerns about its societal impact.
During a recent conclave hosted by TV9 Bharatvarsh, Sundar refrained from directly blaming the director but expressed deep apprehension about the film’s popularity. She highlighted the portrayal of misogynistic content as a troubling trend and called for introspection into the mindset of audiences supporting such films. Sundar drew parallels with past controversies surrounding movies like ‘Kabir Singh’ and emphasized the need for promoting gender equality and respect for women in public discourse.
Bhumi Pednekar also commented on Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of a toxic masculine character in ‘Animal,’ expressing her concerns about the impact on societal perceptions. Sundar, reflecting on her own experience, shared that her daughter advised her not to watch the film after viewing it and expressed her discontent with the mindset of viewers praising such content.
The actress urged young audiences to reconsider their perspective, questioning what goes on in their minds when they endorse such narratives. Despite the film’s financial success, Sundar emphasized the importance of promoting healthier themes in cinema and encouraging a shift in societal attitudes towards women.
‘Animal,’ featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Tripti Dimri, and Sunny Deol, has amassed a staggering Rs 900 crore at the global box office.
