Warner Bros has officially released the first trailer for Mickey 17, a highly anticipated sci-fi film starring Robert Pattinson and directed by Oscar-winner Bong Joon-ho. The film, which is Bong’s follow-up to his Best Picture-winning Parasite, is set for release on January 31, 2025.
Mickey 17 is based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7 and follows Mickey Barnes (played by Pattinson), an “Expendable” worker on a human expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim. As an Expendable, Mickey is tasked with dangerous, often deadly missions. When one version of him dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six such deaths, Mickey comes to realize the grim nature of his role and why the position remained vacant.
In addition to Pattinson, the film boasts an impressive cast including Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. Bong Joon-ho produces the film alongside Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dooho Choi, with Brad Pitt, Jesse Ehrman, Peter Dodd, and Marianne Jenkins serving as executive producers.
Warner Bros has been riding high on the success of its latest release, Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, which has surpassed $267 million at the global box office. Upcoming releases from the studio include Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story on September 21, the horror film Salem’s Lot (October 3), Joker: Folie à Deux (October 4), Caddo Lake (October 10), Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2 (November 1), the rom-com Sweethearts (November 28), and the animated Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (December 13).
