In a significant career move, Milly Alcock, the breakout star from ‘House of the Dragon,’ has secured the coveted role of Supergirl in the upcoming DC Universe film, ‘Superman: Legacy.’ The 23-year-old Australian actress, known for her portrayal of young Rhaenyra Targaryen, will now don the cape as Kara Zor-El in this highly anticipated movie.
Director James Gunn, who officially announced the casting on his Instagram, expressed his excitement about Alcock joining the DC Universe. Gunn praised her talent, stating, “Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU.” He acknowledged her previous work in ‘House of the Dragon’ but emphasized being impressed by her auditions and screen tests for the role of Supergirl.
Milly Alcock, in response to the announcement, shared Gunn’s post on her Instagram stories, expressing her gratitude with a simple “Ahhh Thank You.”
The revelation comes just a month before the scheduled commencement of the film’s production in March. Alcock joins a star-studded cast, including David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Other reported cast members include Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.
After her appearance in ‘Superman: Legacy,’ Milly Alcock is set to headline her standalone movie, titled ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’ According to Gunn, this new interpretation of Supergirl will be ‘very different’ from the traditional portrayal. The film aims to explore the contrast between Superman and Supergirl, delving into their upbringing and origins. Gunn hinted at a darker undertone for the upcoming film, deviating from the usual superhero origin stories.
While Milly Alcock gained widespread recognition for her role in ‘House of the Dragon,’ where her character Rhaenyra underwent an age transformation, she is not expected to return for the upcoming second season of the fantasy series.
