Renowned singer, actor, and DJ, Mojo Nixon, recognized for his 1987 novelty hit ‘Elvis Is Everywhere,’ has passed away at the age of 66. The news was confirmed by his family, revealing that Nixon, born Neill Kirby McMillan Jr., was found dead during the annual Outlaw Country Cruise, an event where he was a regular performer and co-host. The artist had delivered a performance the night before his untimely demise.
According to reports from Variety, the cause of death was attributed to a cardiac event, as stated by Nixon’s family. A Facebook statement from them expressed, “August 2, 1957 – February 7, 2024 Mojo Nixon. How you live is how you should die.” The statement highlighted Nixon’s energetic and passionate approach to life, concluding with a humorous nod to his famous song, “Since Elvis is everywhere, we know he was waiting for him in the alley out back. Heaven help us all.”
Mojo Nixon, originally from North Carolina and later residing in Virginia after stints in Ohio and England, initially ventured into music in Denver as a member of the punk band Zebra 123.
His breakthrough came with the 1987 album ‘Bo-Day-Shus!!!,’ featuring the iconic track ‘Elvis Is Everywhere.’ The song’s music video gained traction on MTV, leading to a performance on ‘The Arsenio Hall Show,’ where the audience sported cardboard Elvis masks in homage.
Nixon also delved into acting, making his debut in the 1989 Jerry Lee Lewis biopic, ‘Great Balls of Fire,’ portraying drummer James Van Eaton. His filmography includes appearances in the 1993 live-action adaptation of ‘Super Mario Bros.’ and the film version of ‘Car 54, Where Are You?’.
