Neve Campbell has put past disputes over her pay for the Scream franchise behind her and is set to return for another sequel. The actress expressed gratitude for the respectful way in which she was approached for her comeback.
While attending the return of Reefer Madness: The Musical in Los Angeles on May 30, Campbell spoke to People about her involvement in the iconic horror series. “Those movies have been such a big part of my life and it means so much to me, and I was sad to miss the last one, to not be a part of it,” she said. “I was really grateful that they came back to me in a respectful way. I think that means a lot to women and to society. I’m grateful to be able to step into Sidney’s shoes again and tell her story.”
Campbell also highlighted the impact of her character, Sidney Prescott. “I meet a lot of fans who say her strength has helped them get through tough times, and it means more than I could ever have imagined to some people,” she remarked.
In March, Campbell announced on her Instagram that she will be returning for Scream 7, which will be directed by original Scream writer Kevin Williamson from a script by Guy Busick. “I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!” she wrote. “It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!”
Campbell, an original star of the Scream series, did not appear in last year’s sixth installment due to a pay dispute. Her most recent appearance was in 2022’s Scream, which served as a franchise reboot. As recently as January, Campbell indicated she wouldn’t rule out returning to the role for the right price.
